Institute for Urban Excellence

We are a non-profit think tank and independent knowledge broker specialising in research, citizen engagementadvocacy, research communication and professional trainings in fields related to the urban.

Having established ourselves as a bridge between urban planning theory and practice, we facilitate the cross-border dissemination and adoption of transdisciplinary knowledge and innovation across sectors, governance levels and communities.

WHAT WE DO

Our work happens in collaboration with an extensive network of partners that we constantly strengthen. We organise our activities in three pillars:

Research - Practice - Academy

Our expertise is centred around core themes to advance sustainability and equity in cities, increase awareness of emerging trends and promote best practices:

THE NATURAL AND BUILT ENVIRONMENT
INCLUSIVITY AND REPRESENTATION
RESILIENCE AND ADAPTATION
GOVERNANCE AND FINANCING

LATEST NEWS AND UPDATES

This is our third update in 2026, and we are delighted to share with you our latest news. We continue to enjoy success in our research projects, delivering relevant results. We are also celebrating the start of our new EU Horizon Bottom-Up NEBourhoods project. The recent successful launch of our publication on Urban Planning Systems, in partnership with Cities Forum, motivates us to initiate exciting future activities. We are planning new initiatives such as global Urban Thinkers Campuses, publishing an interview series with high-level professionals, and developing new project proposals. Furthermore, the Institute is delighted to engage in cooperation with a brand-new initiative, the Institute for Sustainable Cities & Responsible Enterprises (ISCRE) – a Global South Centre of Excellence connecting urban systems with capital, enterprise, and green growth across Asia, Africa and Latin America. We are looking forward to working with you in 2026 and beyond!
