iUE'S WEBINARS & MINI MOOCs

At the Institute for Urban Excellence, we focus on bringing the knowledge and insights from our collaborative spaces to professionals and communities. As a knowledge broker and think tank, iUE serves as a bridge between urban planning theory and practice, helping turn ideas into actionable insights and meaningful learning for practitioners.

Our capacity building programmes focus on new strategies, methods and considerations in urban and regional development. To ensure accessibility, we develop them in an online format as webinars and mini-MOOCs (Massive Open Online Courses).

Our online programmes

Co-Greening: Tools and Approaches for Inclusive Governance of Urban Nature

June 2026

The Institute for Urban Excellence (iUE) developed a webinar in collaboration with the Technical University of Munich, building on our experiences deploying Nature-based Solutions as part of the JUSTNature project, funded by the Horizon 2020 programme. The training explored what collaborative, equitable governance means in urban greening interventions. It counted with insights from local project coordinators from the cities of Munich and Szombathely, and introduced the Co-Greening Handbook, a practical resource with guidance and tools designed to help practitioners and researchers move beyond passive participation toward more inclusive efforts that actively engage vulnerable and minority groups.

Designing Nature-based Solutions with Circular and Bio-Sourced Materials

September 2025

Together with Studio Barnard and Alexander Jachnow, the Institute for Urban Excellence (iUE) developed an online training and mini-MOOC for the New European Bauhaus Academy. The training introduces city makers and built environment professionals to the integration of material circularity into co-created Nature-based Solutions (NbS). It combines a strong theoretical foundation in NbS and circularity with practical insights into the use of bio-sourced materials, focusing in particular on mycelium, a sustainable and regenerative construction material.

Soil Functions and related Ecosystem Services for Sustainable Cities

June 2025

The Institute for Urban Excellence (iUE) organized an international webinar on Soil for Sustainable Cities on June 25th 2025. The webinar focused on the crucial yet often overlooked role of soil in urban development, bringing together experts from Latin America and Europe to share research, policy innovations, and practical applications related to soil sustainability in city contexts.
