About us

The Institute for Urban Excellence is a non-profit research organisation established in The Hague, the Netherlands. We are a think (and-do)-tank empowering individuals, organisations, and institutions to achieve better human settlements. The Institute’s core mission is to conduct research and promote knowledge transfer, offer advice and short-term consultancy services, as well as design and deliver capacity-building and educational programmes. The Institute is involved in several EU research projects and collaborates with a range of international partners.    

Internship Description

We are seeking a Communication Intern to be involved for 6 months in the day-to-day external communication of our activities. In this intern position, you will be involved in several research projects, focusing on how to effectively communicate research and science to a broader audience, as the general design and implementation of iUE’s communication (social media, online events, short thematic articles, design of visual material, etc.). 

You will develop communication and branding skills, focusing on translating complex messages into accessible content, and discover how transnational projects are implemented and disseminated. 

Main Activities

  • – Support the communication activities of the project PLUS Change.
  • – Support the external communication of the Institute for Urban Excellence.

Requirements

  • You are nearing the completion of, or have recently finished, your bachelor’s or master’s degree.
  • – You have an interest in sustainable urban development.
  • You have good IT literacy (with the Office Suite, with online tools such as Canva, and with design software like the Adobe-suite).
  • – You can work in a team and independently, and respond well to feedback.
  • You are curious and open-minded.
  • – You have excellent command of the English language, both verbal and written.
  • – We are looking for someone who can join us in late October.
  • – Candidates based in the Netherlands will have priority (we accept candidates from all nationalities, but you must hold a valid EU citizenship or have a valid EU residence and Dutch work permit).
